There are generally few, if any, state or national standards for Trainers, Groomers, First Aid Specialists, Pet Sitters, Dog Walkers, or other Pet Sitting Professionals. You can find out more about the qualifications of a pet sitting business by contacting the business directly. Be sure to ask about education, what certificates have been earned, and experience. Also ask for references - and check them! For the most unbiased references, ask if you can contact a client that has been served within the last week or 2.

We also recommend that you check with area vets and groomers to learn more about the reputation of various pet sitting businesses. And we highly recommend that you only choose pet sitters that are insured for care, custody, and control of your pets. Feel free to call the pet sitter's listed insurance provider to verify that their insurance policy is properly in effect, with the correct pet sitter coverage.
